I loved Rick Riordian before and I loved him even more after reading this. This book was my first introduction to anything Egyptian Mythology and it absolutely did what it was supposed to do. These characters are forever imprinted in my mind and was a hit to the beginning of the mini series. There's a lot of action but its ofc not as good as his other series😅😂

So far this is an entire info dump 😭I know its the retelling of a real murder mystery but my God man. I hope it does not continue like this.

I’m disappointed. This book has been so incredibly hyped up by friends, family, neighbors, BookTok, strangers, everyone. I felt like I couldn’t go anywhere without people raving about it. Then the trailer for the movie came out, more hype! The other day I started reading it at a brewery and a random nice old man was raving to me about both the book and the Audiobook. I’m now 120 pages in. Absolutely disappointed. Disappointed that I will have no contact with the outside world until I finish this book because I can’t put it down without thinking about it constantly. It’s consuming me. The characters, the settings, the plot, the build. It’s absolutely not up to par with the hype. It’s even better! I don’t even know how I mustered up the energy to write this update without just going back to it. Ok, going back to reading it now.

This plot was awesome! Yes, the whole train system was confusing and after understanding that that was the point I was past it and actually enjoyed being that engrossed. Katia's arc is so amazing to experience! Hekla is awful as usual, glad Katia vindicated herself after experiencing all that indignation. Nervous cause of Eva though 😅. Book was well paced as usual. Loved it! Can't wait to start the next one.

Someone help! I read the first 6 (including Assassin's Blade) books rapidly, one after the other and have struggled for years, yes years to finish this one. I even started over at a point. I'm at 22% is it just that this book starts slow?? Is it just that Chaol is boring 😭? I want to finish and get to the last book but this book literally feels like a bridge!

Now we are cooking! I keep trying to figure out the "twist" and the book keeps throwing more into the pot.
