Check out Ch.3 of Rachel Afi Quinn's, "Being La Dominicana". You know it's bad when there's a whole chapter with your name on it. 💀
White queers, you need to do better.

Okay, real talk: do you guys listen to music when reading or do you prefer not to? I lowkey sometimes can’t read some books without listening to a playlist. It sets the vibe, makes the world feel alive, and sometimes even makes me ugly cry. 🧍🏼♀️
But I usually only listen to music for some genres, for example:
🖤 Horror = I search for “atmospheric horror playlists”. 💜 Fantasy = If it’s famous enough, I search for book-specific playlists. The Poppy War playlist absolutely broke me on The Burning God last chapter 👌🏻
I usually do instrumental only. Lyrics = instant brain chaos.
So… what about you? Instrumental, lyrics, white noise, or silence? Got a playlist you swear by? Drop your links! I’m looking at (stealing) them all. ✨

such a beautiful work of art.
i listened to the audiobook by daveed diggs while reading for most but not all chapters. sometimes i let the voice in my head read in silence and that was impactful too. i also listened with ocean/whale sounds in the background which i associate with calm but for others may feel haunting at first. it might seem like a quick read but i took my time with this one and suggest the same for you, savor the prose, let yourself feel the emotions that come with witnessing the pain of the characters. i'm so grateful that this book exists. rivers solomon is now one of my most cherished authors.
i felt like i was broken into pieces and then put back together gently. loved the ending so so much. loved the queer rep. if you're on the fence i highly recommend giving this book a try, i'll remember it for a long long time.
