happy tuesday everyone!
Lets say one day you wake up in a scary movie but turns out you’re the villain, out of all characters you have read about who would you spare or kill? hehehe 😈

I heard on a podcast recently that no one reads short stories except other writers. Is this true? What do you think?
I enjoy reading short fiction, but I'm also a writer, so there's that lol. Interested in hearing from readers.
Alix Harrow defends short stories in this discussion, which I appreciated! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViAvHPHgcSk

I'm the kind of person who's okay with not knowing what's going on in a novel if the mystery is compelling enough - if you don't feel the same, I 100% would not recommend this to you. There are a ton of plot twists, a lot of 'wait what' moments, and questions aren't really answered until the very end of the book. It feels like the kind of book you'd need to read twice to truly understand, but that fits with the Easter egg hunt theme throughout the book. Garber does a great job of hitting the old Hollywood, roaring 20s, everything gilded vibe and I feel like caramel popcorn would be the perfect side snack while reading. I will caution though, if you're expecting a story like Garber's all-or-nothing romances from her previous books, you may be disappointed.

I’m going to a Stephanie Garber signing tomorrow and I’m so excited! I’ve also met V.E. Schwab, Jennifer Saint, and Cassandra Clare! What authors have you been to signings or lectures for?

How do you guys choose what to put in the Your Taste section?
I've kind of gone for all-time favourites before, now I'm thinking of making it more recent favourites, nut I'm weirdly indecisive on it. Do you guys try to reflect different genres you like? Let's chat.

I'm looking for books like Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman and Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen. I tried Rules of Magic and a few other Alice Hoffman books, but they didn't hit the same as Practical Magic did for me. I'm starting on Sarah Addison Allen's backlog right now, but I know these two can't be the only ones writing books like these.
I particularly love the focus on food and herb magic. And the subtle spells, as opposed to grandiose coven circles or flashy workings.
What similar books would you recommend?

Do you count studying as reading? And when? Does it count if it's part of a syllabus and you have certain pages to memorize, or only for personal study where you simply take in the information without much by heart memorization
Currently fighting for my life in anatomy, and maybe if i actually sat down and read the pages top to bottom I would consider it reading. It doesn't have the extracurricular, hobby element that I'd consider part of it but it /is/ almost a thousand pages 🫠🫠
