This list is incredible! I think Her Majesty's Royal Coven by Juno Dawson would be a great fit if it's not too obvious!

2

I literally just added that book to my TBR!!! This makes me so excited to read it! Adding to the list thank you so much for the rec!!

3

Amazing!! It's one of my favorites - enjoy!!

You may have noticed some "obvious" titles are missing from this list (The Handmaid's Tale, 1984, etc.). This list is specifically curated for maximum sneakiness! 🤫🤫

26

It's great tbh. At least it highlights less known books

2

Agree. 1984 and others don't necessarily need the publicity because they're well-known. Thanks acidicchaos for the long and eclectic list!

I love this list here, definitely a few I need to check out!! 🙂

Also, when I read the name of the list, I can't help but think of this format of meme:

I wish we could have cover photos for lists because this is PERFECT hahahahah

11

Wait cover photos for lists would be so cool actually 🫣

8

I’m shocked I only have a 50% overlap. Guess I’ll have to work to fix that 😅

11

I had the same reaction! Like “only 38% overlap? that’s crazy” immediately follows and starts adding

9

I hope you find some new fun reads for yourself or for gifts 😜

2

I'm trying really hard to find more "obscure" ones that people don't know as well for max sneakiness haha

4

Love this list!! Is hunger games too well known to be sneaky?

6

I was debating this one too!! I think I'll go ahead and put it on and then people can always decide for themselves if it is sneaky enough for their purposes!

4

Uh oh, I fear I love this list too much. I think The Employees by Olga Ravn would fit well!

Also, these title maybe gives something away too much to fit, but on the first one’s face it’s a baseball book 😉 - The Resisters by Gish Jen and a pretty unknown book, Climate of Chaos by Cassandra Newbould

6

Perfection!!! These all look like great fits! Thank you so much!

3

Fantastic list!

You should totally add The spirit bares its teeth by A J White. Cover looks pretty innocent: a blonde person in a purple dress. But it talks about transphobia, homophobia, misogyny and how mental health is viewed by many and once was treated.

4

Ooh this is a great call!! Thank you!

3

No problem!

3

Cemetery Boys and The Sunbearer Trials by Aiden Thomas too are both awesome and deeply political (for example, Cemetery Boys is also about how trans and queer people and people of colour are treated in this society), also, one of the main characters of The Broposal by Sonido Reyes is undocumented and Mexican so we can see how hard lives of undocumented people can be and the book is also against ICE

4

I don't know I how I missed your comment before!! Adding these now! I have had The Sunbearer Trials on my TBR for forever and I need to get to it soon!! Thank you so much for the recs!!

3

You’re welcome! ☺️ The Sunbearer Trials is an amazing book btw and there’s an incredible sequel!

2

Love love love this list!! Definitely a lot of titles I need to read🫣 The only problem is all my family is just as leftist as me, I should give this books to some of my classmates but I'm afraid they don't read (surprise surprise)

3

I hope you and your family find some new reads to enjoy together!! (Also love your username particularly with this comment ahha I'm just imagining hades as the family dinner table discussing the underlying leftists themes... that are definitely not in any of these books hahahha)

3

I really need to finally convince my parents to read some ursula k le guin... And yeah at next Christmas' lunch I'll try to channel Hades' very powers, it might work lol

3

Oh the ever loving problem that the people who most need a novel to imagine the inner lives of other humans are the people who don’t/won’t read! Also love your username and tge mental pic I now (also) have of your dinner table! This list and all the comments are awesome!😘

2

So Far Gone by Jess Walter Operation Bounce House Matt Dinniman Upright Woman Wanted by Sarah Gailey What Kind of Paradise by Janelle Brown

2

Thank you so much!! Just added these!! I can't wait to check them out for myself too!

EDIT: realized that a third of these were either already on my TBR or are books i've read which solidifies the quality of this list. thanks for compiling it.
