ace, ace, baby

Books about asexuality, be they non-fiction or novels. Everyone should read at least one asexual book from time to time.

Rep is usually the main character but sometimes side characters.

It is definitely a spectrum, and I hope these books help!

2

If I have missed your favourite ace read, please let me know so I can add it!

3

There seems to be (anecdotally) a large percentage of Ace Pagebounders so this feels like the perfect list for us!

I love that more people know that this is a thing and it isn't just them feeling different than other folks.

7

3

Ooo thank you!! There's a bunch of these I haven't heard of!

5

Lots of these are on my TBR, and lots I can vouch for. Others are more newly on my radar.

3

I’ve never been so proud to have a good amount of overlap on a list 🫡 and I will make it my mission to turn it into an even higher number 😋

4

Yay, I love giving people missions!

Anyone aware of any sex-positive ace rep from the list or otherwise?

Aka I’ll count demisexual or ace-uninterested-in-sex-but-unopposed-to-it-or-participates-in-some-circumstances etc.

Been interested in exploring the nuance.

Preference for:

  • gay/m x m
  • M x masc or nonbinary/agender/etc
  • masc or nonbinary/agender/etc x ditto
  • gay or trans or t4t if none of the above

The first to come to mind is Last First Kiss by Julian Winters.

1

May I recommend Firebreak by Nicole Kornher-Stace? It's on my TBR but (according to the author) the protagonist is aroace!

Added!

2

Yay, amazing! 🙌

Choir grrrl is a newly released book that has an ace character!!

1

Omg I love the cover! Adding now.

Unless I missed it, I didn’t see Every Heart A Doorway by Seanan McGuire on this list. It’s book one in a YA fantasy series. The main character of book one is ace. There is other representation also trans and queer representation. I found the plot really unique! It follows characters who each find a door into their perfect world (different for each of them) and then they accidentally came back to our world. The characters want to get back to the world they felt more at home in. They’re seen as crazy by their families and sent to a boarding school for kids like them. Each book follows a different character. I wish I’d found it as a kid because I definitely felt like I didn’t “belong”.

1

It is on there, very near the end of the list (9th from the end, but you have to hit the view more button a few times to get there). I really enjoyed the first few books in this novella series when it came out and one of these days I will make the time to do a reread/continue on, because there are so many books in the series now.

2

Oh sorry I missed it! I’ve read the first 3 and I think it’s such a cute series.

1

Oh no worries! There's lots to scroll.
