Recommendations: The books can be any genre of fiction! I don't have a specific age cut off in mind, instead I'm thinking more along the lines of people who have lived long* lives and know their time is coming to an end. The older character doesn't have to be the main protagonist in the story, but they should be a key player in the novel!
I think we can learn from people from all different walks of life - so the older character doesn't have to be "profoundly wise" by any means. We can learn a lot about living our own lives to the fullest by hearing the angry rants of a stubborn person who has racked up a lot of regrets in their lives!
In summary: The vibe of this list are books that I'm grateful to read when I'm younger so I can learn these lessons early and not have to learn them the hard way!
I'd recommend The Door-to-Door Bookstore! It's about an unlikely friendship between an elderly door-to-door bookseller and a nine-year-old girl that changes his life.
Edit: I also wanna add My Grandfather, The Master Detective. It's a Japanese cozy mystery. The story follows a granddaughter named Kaede, and her grandfather who has dementia, as they solve mystery cases together.

When All is Said by Anne Griffin. Really engaging and heartbreaking story about a man toasting the handful of people he loved in his life as itâs coming to an end.
