So glad I found the extra ending chapter that the author wrote a couple years after the book was first published. I was left very unsatisfied with the original ending and rated the book quite low because it left the book on such a sad note... The extra chapter had such a hopeful tone (after wrecking me in the first half) and really elevated the entire story for me.

Plot is phenomenal and it really takes you on a journey. Sanderson is really good at imagery and details. I was definitely on the edge of my seat towards the end of the book. However, I do not really like his writing style, at least in this book. I've found that he states details about a character rather than show it, and I like finding things out about characters rather than being spoon fed information. I also personally felt that a lot of the character interactions and some major events felt more like tropes and general ideas that were pushed to further the plot rather than a natural sequence of what would happen in reality ( I like having my books reflect the ebb and flow of real life to some extent, even in fantasy books). But there is a lot of intricacy in the details of the different races and the "mystery" of the plot itself. I think that part was really really enjoyable and I'd definitely recommend this book for a fun fantasy read!

'Laughing because I know it is my madness that these logical warriors cannot fight.'

The pace these last few chapters has been insanely addictive!

This feels surprisingly plot driven and fast paced for a VE Schwab book (compared to Addie Larue for instance), liking it so far

Leila Mottley and Hanya Yanagihara could join forces to write the most depressing book of all time.
