Texas Has No Taste: Banned Books
A small selection of the over 2000+ banned books recently brought to the attention of Texas' Lt. Gov and a conservative organization for their for "vulgar" material 🙄 including topics of history, race, LGBTQ+, gender identity, feminism, mental health, and sex education as well as romance, horror, science fiction, memoirs, YA, and classic genres. Aka my new reading list 💅 **Includes all the books I've read/on my TBR and other popular books, comment others if you want!!

Why don’t they just get it over with and ban all books?
But then they would be banning the bible and they can’t advocate for that. Not that they have read the bible, either…
I believe Florida is trying! 🫠
This is so interesting to see as some of these banned books are very commonly studied in Australia.

Interesting!! I'm in the US but do not live in Texas and we studied some of these too. Texas is just embarrassing themselves all the time 🤦♀️
I'm not in the US so I'm not caught up on this other than seeing a little online. Do they provide reasons for why these specific books are banned? No book should be banned but I'm curious as to what they think would ever justify banning them
I think any expectation of rationale or justification is an unsupported expectation. The American Taliban (White Christian Nationalists) have a strong presence in Texas politics and “culture”. It has been my observation that banned book lists just get spread around without people having any understanding why or what they banning. I think even the idea that Texas is part of the United States would be a stretch for many in Texas. Even before the rise of fascism in the US, Texans were quite outspoken about being Texans first and then part of the US.
Oh ok, I always thought that Florida was the more extreme state in well, most things. Florida man is even famous outside of the US and I've heard about their crazy old population trying to ban anything that isn't what they grew up with, basically, or rather, their grandparents grew up with😆 Thanks for explaining!
From my perspective, Texas and Florida are in a furious race to the bottom. Which is in the lead, I am not qualified to evaluate. I try and spend as little time as possible peering into dark, foul holes.
LMAO that Educated is on their list 🤦🏼♀️ Seriously though I’m so sad for the people of Texas, it makes me so thankful my parents had the forethought to settle to California in the early 70s and never look back.
Right?? I chuckled at that one 😅 And me too, especially the kids and how it's clearly perpetuating the literacy crisis in this country
