Hi all!
I’ve been thinking about the kind of books I like and what I tend to rate 5 stars, and the themes (or I suppose maybe tropes is a better word?) that seem to come up surprisingly often in the books I love. I’ve noticed some of them are very specific, and wondered if anyone else has very specific things you enjoy reading about in books.
My top specific topics are:
Also if you have any recommendations please let me know, especially if it fits more than one of the topics.

New ick is the word “balls” when referring to male anatomy. Really took me out of the scene. Will be reporting back soon for a more detailed review. I have some things to say.

in honour of the Backrooms film being released this month, I’m looking for books with that weird, creepy, liminal space vibe. pretty much like Severance on Apple tv! or even Pan’s Labrinyth? something along the lines of characters finding a world that shouldn’t exist, that defies the logic of the normal world, becoming trapped, and it’s either empty or has monsters. i’m not fussed by either! if there aren’t any books exactly like this, then something close would be appreciated too. i love horror as a genre but i’m still quite new to it, other than classics like The Exorcist. 👻

question’s in the title! what book, just based on how much you love it/how much you yap about it/etc etc etc pick your own criteria, do you think your PB friends would see and think immediately “oh yeah, [insert your username]!!”? for me,
the fact that i made this in the first place really says it all for my answer honestly

Hullo! I have always bought/received books faster than I can read them and the unsightly culmination of that is that I own 118+ books I have not read. So, I am not allowed to buy/check-out any new books until I have read or given away all the ones I already have. To do this, I put all my books on a wheel to spin and I will read whatever it lands on.
RULES ♦ If I land on something I do not feel like reading, I can skip it. But once a book has been skipped three times, I must read it or give it away. ♦ Once I start reading, I have to read the first 100 pages but after that I can DNF at any time. ♦ Any new books gifted to me will go on the wheel.
Some of these books I have had since high school – almost 30 years ago. So, some of them might be a little dated. I say this, because I just spun the wheel and landed on my first pull:
📕 The Stranger Beside Me: The Shocking Inside Story of Serial Killer Ted Bundy by Anne Rice.
Oh no. I bought this when I was on a True Crime kick who knows how many years ago. Welp. Here we go.
xoxo
Let me know if there are any other rules (punishments?) you think I should include for my wheel.

What's up, peebs! Bit of a moral quandary for you today!
So I was talking with my friend and her husband and the conversation ended up at killing. Her husband and I both agreed that there were some circumstances where we would kill, but she was very adamant that under no conditions would she ever kill anyone. The convo then turned towards others killing for you, and how you would feel about that. I personally would probably feel.. idk if honoured is the right term, but something along that vein, especially if it was to protect me. Anyway, i wouldn't feel very differently about the person who killed. (edit: to clarify, it depends on the context aka not okay with killing for weird possessive/selfish reasons like ew no) Her husband said that he wouldn't mind it if it was in a high-stakes situation where killing was the only way to protect/save him, but anything premeditated or unnecessary was unacceptable. My friend said that if anyone would ever kill for her, she would never look at that person the same again. Even if it was her husband killing someone to save her from certain death, she would never forgive him or stay with him afterwards. Because of our vastly different opinions, i was wondering if maybe it's because of our difference in morals? I'm a lot more morally grey than either of them and a majority of my friends. Anyway, i was thinking that because killing for someone is a common trope in writing, and people seem to love it, readers who encounter the concept often -and thus my fellow boundlings- would have interesting thoughts on this subject. Do you like reading about this trope? How would you actually feel about it irl if someone killed for you? and similarly would you ever kill for someone? adding on to that, do you ever feel like your morals have changed or shifted because of reading?

This feels very on brand for the "for fans of Dungeon Crawler Carl" crowd. There's this ridiculous nature so far. Bob is quite the character. Lot more rational, given the circumstances.
Also the bit about America...well given what's happening right now, makes it hit a bit too close to reality than I think Dennis had intended lmao
