This post is obviously inspired by this recent post in the movie quest forum, but it's a small problem that I don't have a solution for yet.
So I work at a biiiiig bookshop as a help, and sadly we have a medium-to-big sized Harry Potter section with books, merch and candy. I can't do anything about that.
About my circumstances, I'm handling the customers at the cash register. Usually there's the option to check with the online shop and adjust the price of an item (downwards), which is something I haven't done so far for HP books/merch unless asked. I didn't want to encourage people to buy more stuff, but it also means a bigger win for the company š« I don't feel like I'm in a position to say anything about the customer's purchase, either.
So how are you, if you're also working in the field, dealing with this situation? What are some of your (realistic, please, I like my job) suggestions? And please tell me I'm not the only one conflicted about this* š
*I couldn't care less about HP, there are much better wizard books out there (like Sorcery and Small Magics, if you're asking for a queer recommendation)
Edit: spelling mistake

HEYY! Let me ask you, do you always read one book and that book only at a time, or multiple (like me)? Even if I tried, I really just can't stick to only one reading option. I tend to have a few books of different genres in my "currently reading" pile at once (3-5) and that keeps me motivated and consistent, because I can just pick up the book I'm the most in the mood for. Though I haven't met or seen that many other people like this, I've even had friends say that they cannot do that because they would lose focus, but for me it's just so natural, like doing multiple projects at once (sure it takes way longer to finish them all haha). I don't really have a problem with this habit of mine, I just wonder if there's people like me out there!

I felt the need to make this post after recent bouts of new accounts following and then immediately unfollowing once I follow them back.
I love that PageBound is one space on the Internet where we can nerd out over books, annotations, and our TBRs.
Which is why this follow-unfollow tactic feels so out of place.
Letās keep PB genuine. ā„ļø Connect if you actually want to be open to new genres and books, and share reads and thoughts. If youāre looking to inflate a follow ratio, youāre missing the whole point of PB.

Hey everyoneeeee!!š«¶š» It's my 20th birthday. It still kinda feels funny in my head that I have turned 20 on 20th August (it just does, I don't know why š) My elder sister got me 3 books and my very first Manga. She also gave me a handmade bouquetš„¹ and like those flowers are made so beautifully from craft papers, I wish I could attach its pic. I am soo happyyy. She also wrote short notes based on the books for me and now every book feels so special, i cannot decide which one to pick up first. I would be really happy to hear everyone's suggestionsš
1) The Days of Abandonment by Elena Ferrante 2) My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell 3) Green Dot by Madeleine Gray 4) Manga - NANA by Ai Yazawa Vol. 1
(Now this is very special to me. It's my first manga. I have watched the anime. Literally devoured it!! Everything about NANA feels so personal. I also got a NANA tshirt for my birthday. NANA is absolute love and I would be so glad if everyone gives its anime or manga a chance. But it is incomplete because the author went on a hiatus due to her health ig)
Ps: I am sorry if this felt irrelevant. But this is the first time I ever felt so excited for my birthday and i really really wanted to share it with everyoneš©·

Iām just looking for more people to follow who hold this belief. I recently made a comment on here on a quest that we as a community shouldnāt platform HP because of the harm JKR is doing to trans people like me and Iām being called a book burner for this when I never called for book burning. JKR enacts politically violence and has assaulted a trans woman (took upskirt photos of this woman) and Iām tired of being told Iām a book burner when I ask people not to platform for that. Her money she earns from HP is being used to hurt trans people like me. I just need other people to follow on here with the same beliefs because Iām tired and feeling ostracized in the book community for believing Trans lives matter more than a stupid book

Hi yall! I would like to start with this wonderful quest (thank you @OhMyDio!) but I have a very limited choice of books available: The Fifth Elephant and The Wee Free Men (both on loan from a friend). Which one would you wonderful people recommend as a first? I would've loved to start with The Color Of Magic or Guards! Guards! but alas, what can I do...

In order to read, one needs to write, which was only invented (letters, alphabets, symbols, etc) 6,000-5,000 years ago. This is considered too recent in human evolution to develop a gene for reading.
āThe herculean job of educators is no less than to help the brain develop a skill it could not otherwise, which requires creating an entirely new circuit in the brain.ā ā The Reading League
Then how have we learned to read? Mostly by practice and constant repetition, such as in school, that changes your brain (which is called neuroplasticity).
This makes your brain adapt to letters by using functions meant for recognizing faces, seeing shapes, and hearing sounds (hence why some hear words in their brain as they read).
And yes, writers take this further.
P.S. This post is oversimplified.

Apologies to anyone I've ever responded to on a post. I get so excited to chat I almost always forget to upvote the post. I'm seeking to change my ways, but if I ever forget to like yours, sorry in advance!

Have you seen any stores entering their book era lately, stores that are typically unrelated to selling books?
Inspired by Jimmy John's who have been fangirling over the ACOTAR announcements since yesterday and are now hosting a pickle book titled "A Quart of Forbidden Brine" (sadly this doesn't actually exist) š¤£
I also saw ALDI US also fangirling over the same announcement but they deleted their post (rude)
Now Pizza Hut are posting about books using bread as bookmarks
But there's got to be other book announcements that got the book worms of stores social media teams to break character

I never experienced reading anxiety until I moved back home with my parents for my senior semester of college(doing it online) and realized that I get very nervous to read physical books around my parents. My dad especially makes fun of my fantasy books. Well, not āmakes funā he just doesnāt understand them and gets this weird look when I mention what Iām reading physically. I know itās stupid to get anxiety over this. Thatās why Iām heavily considering reading all my books on kindle and then copying the kindle notes/highlights into my physical copy

Iām wondering whether other readers often find themselves getting pulled out of a story bc of knowledge/expertise they have.
Iām a legal academic (or training to be one, as Iām in my PhD right now) and when I read a book with speculative/fantastical elements which mentions how that interacts with the real legal system Iām always like š„“š§
I read a book recently where someoneās memory had been altered (in the near future) and the UK courts decided not to return his memories because it might be traumatic and I was like? Really?
Edited bc I was getting downvoted either for mentioning smth or for criticizing it, idk

so i thought it wasn't okay to make a club post on a specific book bcs that's what the forums are for. they always get downvoted heavily. but when the book is popular it seems to be fine? is that how it is? i wanna know

Hello everyone, I know there are still a few months left of 2026 but the "ber" months are rapidly approaching which means so is 2027! Are you already thinking ahead to book related goals for 2027?
I have never set a book related goal before, besides what I think will be an easily achievable yearly book goal. For 2027 though, I'm setting a new kind of goal! I have at least a dozen favorite books that I read over a year or two ago when I first got back into reading again and my goal for 2027 is to reread at least one of these old favorites a month. I'd like to see what I may have missed or forgotten and if my opinions have changed now that I've been reading consistently again.
How about y'all? What goals did you set for 2026 and are you on track to achieve them? Are you already looking forward to a new or reoccurring goal for 2027? Do you never set goals and just read purely on āØļøVibesāØļø like I have been?
