Language is so much more than words. It’s our culture, our identity, and our history rolled into one. These books show how the way we speak shapes, and is shaped by, who we are.

I love this list I talk about this ALL THE TIMEEEEE especially how colonism rips away indigenous language to replace it with their own and in doing so effectively severs the next generations connection to their own history and culture

Yes!! Exactly this. Language and linguistics have always been such an interest of mine. I'm excited to learn more about it!
I had no idea this list existed and posted about something similar in the forums! I have a degree in Linguistics and absolutely adore languages this is such a goldmine - thank you so much for putting this list together ❤️❤️

I just made it a couple days ago! I'm so glad you like it and appreciate the picks! Please let me know if you have any recs and I'll add them. I studied anth/arch in university, but always had an interest in linguistics. Unfortunately my institution didn't offer any courses.
That’s so great, I wish I’d taken more anth courses/ done a minor in it but alas ❤️ the care you put into the list shows! All my books are textbooks that don’t quite fit but I’m truly looking forward to diving into these and learning more
I love books like this! Would recommend Enough is Enuf by Gabe Henry and Mark Forsyth's The Horologicon

Thank you so much!! I added both ☺️
Such a great list - I hope to read a book or two of it at the beginning of next year! One thought that I had when looking at the description was that R F Kuang's Babel would fit perfectly - but I'm not sure if you also consider fiction, or if this is a purely nonfiction list. So I'd suggest this book in case it fits your plan! ^^
