I love this list! Inclusion of Fire Bringer = top tier, you rock. I think Redwall (the whole series, but probably makes sense to include just the first one) would also be a good fit!
I read both Fire Bringer and The Sight as a kid (probably when I was too young to read either of them) and they have both stuck to me. And perfect - will add Redwall, thanks!
David Clement-Davies was my absolute favourite author as a kid, I LOVE this list!!
Wait me too! I was obsessed with wolves as a kid, so I loved The Sight especially, but I also read Fire Bringer (way too young like I said to Liz above LOL).
I read The Sight probably 12 times đ Also had a wolf obsession haha, seems like a universal young girl thing (a bit like every young girls other obsession, Ancient Egypt lol)
Yeah! Wolf-girls unite! I never had an Ancient Egypt phase but my friend did and was obsessed with/talked about constantly Mara, Daughter of the Nile because we read it in school. My class just made replica tombs for how we would want to be buried ancient Egypt style LOL.
đ love that! I never made a tomb, but I did have to make my own Book of the Dead! Wolf-girls are the best though. I'll have to check out some more of the books on this list soon!
Would the legend of the guardians series fit this list for you?
Yes! Adding the first one to the list.
I love those. I think I read the first two when I was like 10 and I was actually thinking of doing a reread.
OMGGGGG! Thank you for including Silverwing. I was obsessed with that damn book for years. đ
Aww yeah also bats are ADORABLE! And thank you for checking out the list!
This is such a fun idea for a list! Sometimes we need a break from human protagonists lol. Would love to suggest The Familiars by Adam Jay Epstein and Andrew Jacobson. I read the first book in middle school and remember loving it. Bonus: it has 3 animal protagonists! The first book can be read as a standalone IMO
This is adorable! Adding the first book!
love a competent animal protagonist! (I mean, I also love an incompetent one. but my point still stands)
SAME, but only if they don't die. (Some of the protagonists...do die in these books but I think there's like reincarnation and such so I let it slide lol.)
omg the emotional rollercoaster I went through reading this comment......
Hahaha DON'T WORRY I could not let the protagonists die! Especially animal ones cause animals are not allowed to die.
The list we all neededđđ
Thank you so much!! I hope you like your chicken protagonist! đ
Actually, I can't find my chicken! I'm thinking of the chicken in Nettle & Bone - which chicken do you know of that I've not heard of yet?đ€Ż
(I loved the chicken in Nettle & Bone but tbh I love all the animal companions that T. Kingfisher writes!)
THIS one about a hen (who dreamed she could fly)!
Oh! I also have a recommendation! The Wild Road by Gabriel King. Kitty cat protagonist đââŹ
Awww yay! Kitty adventure - adding now, thanks!
