I've been thinking about this because I donât usually do much research before reading. So Iâm curious, how do you approach a new story? I hope it's not too many questionsđ
Do you usually do research about a book before reading it? For example, do you look into the author's intentions, deeper meanings and so on? â What's your goal or intention when you do that kind of research?
How do you avoid spoilers? I personally hate spoilers and I'm always afraid of accidentally coming across one while researching. That's probably the main reason I don't really do it.
Do you maybe do your research after finishing the book instead?
How do you know if it's recommended to learn more about a book before reading it?
A bit of context: I saw a club post from AFlockOfFuries (âWhat's your book discourse pet peeve?â) and noticed some interesting discussion points (which were completely valid) that made me wonder how much you should know about a story before going into it. I'm not criticizing at all â I'm genuinely curious and would love to hear your perspectives and maybe learn a thing or twoâşď¸
If there's already been a discussion about this (not about researching an author), please point me to it â I might've just missed it or searched with the wrong keywords.

Hello please help a girl with choice paralysis and a big TBR out! Iâve got an over flowing TBR but the books Iâve whittled it down to atm are:
An Ember In The Ashes This Woven Kingdom The Jasad Heir A Language of Dragons Wild Reverence A Land So Wide The Mercy Makers The Jasmine Throne House of The Beast and, House of Bane and Blood
I really want a fantasy world I can sink into and a romance I can believe in!!

DNF at 82% đŤŁ
Usually when I get this far I push through just to finish it but I found myself dozing off and having to rewind the audio a few times and this last time I just didnât care enough to rewind and figure out where I needed to pick up listening đŤ
I really didnât hate it, I was warming up to the two main characters but I donât like it enough to keep going. Maybe this one I should have physically read versus audio book, sometimes that makes a difference for me in a weird way.

this book is a rollercoaster of emotions. 70% of the time I'm laughing my ass off, 20% wtf is going on and the other 10% I'm giggling because of Jack. And the references to famous movies/series? Iconic đ but I'm still not sure what to think about the increased jokes and the exaggerated statements from the characters. Everyone somehow has this crazy sense of humor and everyone says exactly what they think? It's really funny but sometimes a bit too much because it's coming from everyone. Well, I'm definitely curious to see how it ends...đŹâŁď¸

As someone who has been around the bookstagram/ booktok / booktube or any bookish community in a social media platform for more than 6 years, It was so tiring to see the same 10 books being popping up on the feed. I was easily influenced, most of the "popular" books that I read were utter disappointment to me. (Normal people on the top of the list ). No offense to the authors or anybody who loves them, It didn't work for me atleast.
And then I found this community where I have discovered so many great books, people talking about their favourites with such passion and intellect that no "book influencer" can match. I am so happy to have to read all the genuine reviews you all post here and the thread of conversation that pops up below that.
I am grateful to be here, to be among people who love bookish talks.
So, tell me your criminally underrated favourite book. I'll go first, it's Kingdom of Back by Marie Lu. â¨đś
