my gosh is this upsetting 😭 The Hunger Games books were brutal but this is just devastating. Knowing this takes place at the 50th Hunger Games and this won't be "resolved" more 25 more years... ugh.

I was looking through my physical tbr to plan for october and noticed I have quite a few books that have been on there for literal years 🙃 I try to unhaul books if I don't plan on reading them or if I've lost interest but these are books I want to read!!
Any books you've been avoiding or postponing? And do you know why? Is it the length of the book that intimidates you or a genre you don't read that often? Any tips on starting them? 👀
Classics for me is a genre I tend to avoid bc they scare me a little and I'm afraid I won't be able to follow them or that I'm not smart enough to understand all the themes. I've had Little Women, One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, Rebecca & The Catcher in the Rye on my tbr for SO long! & I've been reading Frankenstein for about a year now LOL
I also do tend to postpone starting really long fantasy books, even though I often really enjoy them! Something about knowing the length puts me off. Reading them on an e-reader helps, though!

So there were 50 deaths related to witchcraft in Salem, yet the author’s, admittedly small, survey sample found that many Americans believed it was the largest witch hunt in history. I’m so, so curious as to why that is.

Hello all,
I've been thinking about getting into journaling when reading, taking notes, annotating, etc. If any of you do that, do you give yourself questions to answer as you read the book? What kind of questions are they?

"Mistborn" is set in an oppressive, barren world in which the ordinary people, the Skaa, have been enslaved for centuries under the all-powerful, immortal Lord Emperor and his Nobility. A group of Mistings, people born with special abilities activated through burning metals, band together under the Mistborn and master-thief Kelsier with the plan to overthrow the emperors reign.
Sanderson is once again a master at creating a compelling fantasy world and characters evolving into heroes. The story explores important and even currently relevant themes such the means by which autocracies and feudalistic structures are upheld - propaganda, a strong social class hierarchy, labour exploitation and the dismantling of diverse religions and cultures, all amidst a very unique magic system.
Despite an exciting storyline (especially the last 25%, wow) and interesting main characters (Vin, Kelsier and Sazed>>>), I have to admit I didn't always enjoy my time with this book, mostly because of the depressing and heavy atmosphere of the setting. This is by no means a fault of the book, but probably something I wasn't in the mood for. I would also have liked to have seen a bit more depth in some of the characters and their relationships, there were a few flashbacks that I thought were great, I would have loved more of that. Didn't buy the romance as well, but I digress.
Still, 4/5, will continue the series.
