What the first volume did well, vol. two did better. I loved the development across the board: the central relationship, the political maneuvering from all sides, especially Shen Zechuan’s. Their dynamic is so compelling that I can’t help but look forward to reading this book all the time.

tbh I'm totally new to the gothic fiction genre, have never thought of reading it ever in my life - until recently, when I read wuthering heights for the readalong. although I disliked the characters, I found myself very much enjoying the gothic aesthetics of the windy and rainy moors. it has now awakened in me an interest and I would like to explore more gothic fiction, but I much prefer reading queer novels in general compared to other novels. I know of Interview With The Vampire and Carmilla, but that's about it. so all this is to say, does anyone have queer gothic romance recs / queer gothic fiction recs? 🥹 (other than IWTV and Carmilla which I already have my eye on!)

Andrea Gibson has this way of writing poems that capture all the little things about being alive, being able to love, to feel, to be human -- capturing the full breadth of humanity and life. I loved this collection and The Madness Vase. the poems about their chronic illness are heartbreaking to read after their death. my fav poems from this collection are: Queer Youth Are 5x More Likely To… and Night Shift
