I gotta say I'm far more invested in Bree's relationship with Alice, her dad, Patricia, and her mom than I am in her relationship with Nick
Maybe it's because I'm a bit older and don't see the appeal with guys like him. Not that he's been anything but kind, mind you. But I really prefer reading about Bree being introduced to her heritage and, by extension, parts of her mother through an older woman who probably shares her heritage. It's just so nice to see her act as a mentor and a sort of mother figure to Bree who has been in such raw pain since her mother's death.
Bree having a genuinely good support system is so fucking refreshing.

In the words of Leonard Cohen, "poetry is just the evidence of life...if your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash." This quest is for those who love poetry, hate poetry, want to write it, read it, or perhaps have nothing to do with it (or all of that at once)!

Morally grey or straight up baddies? A collection of books written from a villainous/morally grey POV. Only the first book from a series is included.

Hello everyone. Thank you all so much for joining the Mythological World Tour. I will be your tour guide from here on. This is my first quest and I have poured my heart into this topic which is so close to me, and I hope you all will tag along in this journey.
I believe all our cultures are secretly fuelled by our myths and lores , and it is the OGs of the OGs, when it comes to fantasy. World mythology walked so the fantasy genre could run ! These are what we got handed down from our grandparents and parents as bedtime stories.
Onto the Quest itself I have tried to cover as much ground by geography as I could in our first round of books. My goal is to explore lesser known or less explored myths and folklore with this community through this quest. There were so many good picks it was hard to pick only a few .
The current list features 40 books Roughly included are : China, Japan. S. korea, India, Russia , Ireland, Greece, Greater Africa, Egypt, Indigenous, Latin America This list is not exhaustive at all. More regions will be featured as we go, along with more from the above.
When it comes to fantasy a lot of thematic exploration also draws from world history , takes liberties with it and intertwines with myths and lore. The list will mimic the same. I shall continue to make this culture map as diverse as I can. I have tried to include as many lesser known, unique books as I could , aiming for a good balance, so we can all participate together.
P. S: Please make this space your own. Make the forum interactive, leave us suggestions and recommendations and everything else in between. I am excited to hear all your thoughts š
YOURS, ELF

Edit 2: There are too many comments on this post now. I cannot keep up, sorry if I fail to respond when mentioned/addressed.
Edit: The general consensus seems to be that downvoting as a feature is definitely not the issue but how it is being used should be amended so that it is used more responsibly/kindly. On the flip side we can also all just stop taking it to heart and roll with it + some users are weary of discussing this again and again ( I apologize for that since I was not aware that this is a super overdone issue).
I know there have been posts before about forum moderating and other instances of people bringing up the issue of downvoting. But I wanted to ask if generally the consensus is pro downvoting on pagebound and that too so excessively. I find it to be on the edge of bullying and hostility. I am one of the earlier set of users but I stepped away for a bit as I was in a reading slump and I recall how much more comfortable and enjoyable the community was before this feature was being abused (that's how I would put it atleast). Excited to hear your thoughts on the matter. Do you guys really think moderating quality is worth all the hostile bullying? Because we can't really get people to see it as "oh we are just correcting you on a technicality" without giving them mob lynching energy when we come so strongly to attack them. This is not a complaint about the feature as much as it is a concern over how it's being used.

As a reader, I adore Peter so much. But if I was Alice, I too, would be mad I canāt even hate the guy properly.

something you can do so wrong in a fantasy/historic fantasy novel is use the F word. it shatters the illusion of the world to me and just feels lazy. authors, be more creative with your curses! take SJM in her Throne of Glass series--they use "rut" or "rutting" . so creative!
