i'm almost at part two of the book, and i have to say that as much as i love hobb's writing, farseer is much better than liveship for me, currently. the third person narration often feels less than i'm reading the characters' inner monologue and more of the omniscient narrator's. sometimes the prose is so general i'm not sure whose pov i'm reading from. i think the third person narration makes it harder for me to really care about the characters as much as i did in farseer. i do blame hobb's first person narration for being so perfect i really hope i'll be able to go through 1800 more pages after this book

I... really like Kennit? I mean he's clearly full of himself and an asshole but I like characters like him. I liked him from the first lines, he entertains me. I hope that's not an unpopular opinion lmao Wintrow is a cute boy that I simply want to protect, and considering Hobb's precedents (the Farseer Trilogy) I'm overcome with fear and dread for him. Hold fast baby, I hope I'm wrong, but either way I'm with you.

"Though he wore no armor, his arm felt like a band of steel. Solid, and unmovable." Jesus Christ this man gets more fuckable with every second. I'm about to faint over here, like I'm full on blushing! "My lady, you are a marvel beyond reckoning. I am in awe." "My lady, be assured that should I live so long as to see the day the sun does not rise, the rivers do not flow, and the winds do not blow, I would NEVER think ill of you." I'm literally going feral. No clue how either is still maintaining this conversation. I'd be 3 kids deep into a lifelong marriage by this point

With A Game of Thrones in this list, I'm afraid I'll never get the completionist badge! *insert crying emoji*

Dramatic battles, tense political intrigue, unique world building...and is that maybe some romance I'm sensing? These books are not Romantasy but focus primarily on the SFF elements. Romance is a subplot and may not appear until later in the series, but when it does, you won't be disappointed.

I didn't know how common it was for people to have ereader devices until I started paying more attention to what was going on in "bookish" spaces. As long as I've been reading ebooks, I've just read them on my phone. Getting a separate device just for reading seems a bit excessive to me, but I can sympathize with the desire to be free of distractions like random notifications or the temptation of social media. Does anyone else just read on their phone? Am I getting a skewed impression of how most people read ebooks, or are ereaders really that common? What features (other than minimizing distractions) make ereaders better than phones for reading?

If the Divine is also female, and the female is also Divine, then she understands that woman is more than mother, more than daughter, more than wife. Those are the facets of a full life, but no single facet defines the jewel.
