“Caught cold, Watson?’ said he. ‘No, it’s this poisonous atmosphere.’ ‘I suppose it is pretty thick, now that you mention it.’ ‘Thick! It is intolerable.”

I went into That's Not My Name without any prior knowledge - quite literally found it on Libby and decided to listen to it on my way to and from work. And immediately, I was intrigued.
The story follows a young girl who wakes up in a ditch with no recollection of anything, before a man called Wayne Boone advises her (and the local sheriff) that he is her father, her name is Mary Boone, and provides them with an abundance of paperwork, not to mention photos, as proof.
Drew, a high school student, is looking for his girlfriend, Lola, after she has disappeared - and he was the last one to see her.
Preface - I listened to this as an audiobook, and had very mixed feelings. It toggles between Mary and Drew and each chapter is voiced by the respective narrator. However, that also meant to that male voices, primarily Wayne's, was voiced by the female narrator, and vice versa. There was just something about it that I couldn't really take seriously. I don't know why, but all I could hear was Jimmy Neutron every time a male character spoke in a Mary chapter. The male narrator wasn't quite as overt about it, the female characters he voiced just being a slightly higher pitched version of his standard voice. But my god, it was a bit of a struggle to get through for a bit.
Once the story started getting on, I was able to look past it a bit more and really get engaged in it. Admittedly, there were moments that I was a little surprised at seemingly how easily they weren't more harshly punished or harshly punished at all for things that absotootly deserved it, but overall, it was interesting and exciting and definitely had a good twist at the end.
