Deep Black Sea
David M. Salkin
A crew of seven aboard a specially designed research submarine sit three miles down in the dark world beneath the sea. When they bring aboard the bacteria that enables certain animals to survive in the seven-hundred degree poisonous water of the black smoker, they have no idea that one of the researchers plans on using them as his test subjects.

This is just your average idyllic small town inhabited by anthropomorphic forest creatures. Nothing else to see here.

I might have to adjust my ratings for the S&B trilogy, cause those were way harder to get through despite being way shorter

Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly job that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he canât pull it off alone... A convict with a thirst for revenge. A sharpshooter who canât walk away from a wager. A runaway with a privileged past. A spy known as the Wraith. A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums. A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes. Six dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist. Kazâs crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destructionâif they donât kill each other first.

Was this a masterpiece? No. Was it wildly entertaining? Yes.
If you can suspend your disbelief and don't ask too many questions, this is a fastpaced heist story with varied characters and a lot of action. also, a book can have too many "twists" because then they're not twists anymore, you're just hiding information from the reader

Sorcery and Small Magics
Maiga Doocy
Desperate to undo the curse binding them to each other, an impulsive sorcerer and his curmudgeonly rival venture deep into a magical forest in search of a counterspellâonly to discover that magic might not be the only thing pulling them together. Leovander Loveage is a master of small magics. He can summon butterflies with a song, or turn someoneâs hair pink by snapping his fingers. Such minor charms donât earn him much admiration from other sorcerers (or his father), but anything more elaborate always blows up in his face. Which is why Leo vowed years ago to never again write powerful magic. That is, until a mix-up involving a forbidden spell binds Leo to obey the commands of his longtime nemesis, Sebastian Grimm. Grimm is Leoâs complete oppositeârespected, exceptionally talented, and an absolutely insufferable curmudgeon. The only thing they agree on is that getting caught using forbidden magic would mean the end of their careers. They need a counterspell, and fast. But Grimm casts spells, he doesnât undo them, and Leo doesnât mess with powerful magic. Chasing rumors of a powerful sorcerer with a knack for undoing curses, Leo and Grimm enter the Unquiet Wood, a forest infested with murderous monsters and dangerous outlaws alike. To dissolve the curse, theyâll have to uncover the true depths of Leoâs magic, set aside their long-standing rivalry, andâmuch to their horrorâwork together. Even as an odd spark of attraction flares between them.

Is it more of a high or low fantasy? I don't know if I can handle complicated world building right now
For the last several months I've been feeling fatigued, so much so it's hard to find the energy for reading and not just sleeping
Which is why I'm looking for easy to read yet thrilling books that keep me entertained enough to stay awake while not overwhelming my brain
I'm open to try almost any genre, but my usual fare consists of fantasy, horror and the occasional scifi
I'd be thankful if you shared your recommendations with me đ
