PLEASE ADD RECS HERE

The main idea behind this list is sexy yaoi/BL titles, especially ones that invoke a sense of nostalgia for yaoi fandom of yesteryear. I'm completely open to adding other titles so long as it has some visual aspects and is available to add to the list on PB. In order for me to add the list, I'd prefer there to be sex within the first volume/arc/etc., for sex to be fairly frequent throughout the story, and to not simply be a payoff to a longer, more romantic story. I do not have any qualms about adding books with problematic tropes or kink and will not judge anyone's suggestions even if I decide not to add it for some reason. :)

The hockey books are not going on here y'all got your own things

I thought I had more, but they’re not on Goodreads, thus not on PageBound. ☹️

  • Henkutsu Shousetsuka wa Koi ni Irodzuku by Yan
  • Junai Dropout by Niumu Misaka
  • Omune-chan no Sainan by Niyama
  • 四月喫茶の秘密の事件簿 by 鬼嶋兵伍 (Hyouga Kijima) < this artist has other yaoi works but they’re not on pagebound
3

Yeah, that's definitely been an issue for me, plus all of the bootleg scanlations I read over the years that I don't remember well lol. Thanks for the recs anyway, I'll look into them when I can!

3

😂🥹this is my problem I don't end up remembering until I start reading it

3

I think Afterglow by Wagimoko Wagase is perfect for this list. It's a standalone manga with lots of sex and a bit of plot. Really explicit drawings 🤭

5

Awesome, thanks for the rec! I wanna check this out too.

Let's talk about terms and the thesis behind this list! I will be adding more titles and laying out my expectations for additions, but I understand the title of this list is provocative. It's supposed to be!

YAOI as a term has been adopted/evolved in Western fandom, but it essentially is/was a self-deprecating term for MLM doujinshi meaning essentially porn without plot. Yaoi, atp, seems like it is used more by Western fans who have run off with the term versus how work is categorized currently in Japan.

BL is 'boys love', manga depicting relationships between men. Not all BL is yaoi, but all yaoi is BL.

FUJOSHI means 'rotten woman' and probably sprung from incel-adjacent male fandom spaces like 2chan complaining about female fans with different interests than them, so, y'know, their pussies stink and they're all complete shut-in socially maladjusted virgins. Not at all like them, who care about Gundams. It has since become somewhat of a badge of honor, but please approach portrayals you see of the fujoshi term with a critical eye toward who is perpetuating the narrative. That being said many BL fans call themselves fujoshi proudly, and fudanshi is the male equivalent, and the non-gender-specific term is fujin. In my non-exhaustive personal experience of several decades + that time I got blackout drunk for three days at Yaoi-Con, straight fujoshi do exist, however, it's one of those cases where if someone was like "I like this stuff and I'm a straight cisgender woman" I'm liable to say "but for how long?" In other words miss me with "fujoshi are just loser straight women who fetishize gay men" while there is an element of that there has been a ton of academic research on the subject for close to thirty years now and I'm just not really interested in entertaining the notion. I also think a majority of people who complain about the realism of BL have probably not familiarized themselves with porn across demographics, because I can assure you, porn by gay men written for men is simply unrealistic in different ways, and let's not get into every woman in lesbian porn for straight men having a French manicure. Fantasies are fantasy, and I prefer to avoid policing fantasy.

Also? Other people can't embarrass you if you simply aren't ashamed of being into something. This is the kind of attitude I'm trying to cultivate this list.

If you feel personally harmed by yaoi, smut, sexual material, people doing illegal, uncomfortable or even disturbing things in a sexual fantasy, etc., you are invited to look elsewhere.

The title of this list is a reference to Yaoi Paddles, an oddity of the late 2000s/2010s American anime con culture. In other words, it's just a little in-joke. If for some reason you want to learn more about the Yaoi Paddle, I recommend Red Bard's video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8yuFmJVwtY

Love it, here for it

2

I appreciate you for this list and info! Some stuff in yaoi ain’t for me, but I might have stuff for this list. 🤔

4

Absolutely happy to accept suggestions on my other pinned comment!

2

hahaha i love the 'personally harmed by yaoi'😭😭😭😭

5

Look, you would not believe the comments I see on Reddit about BL fans. You would think that we created homophobia.

2

That's why I stay away from most BL and GL spaces. It's just a cesspool of bad and downright homophobic takes

2

💖💖great mindset. I love this post (you‘re so good w words)

3

Absolutely a one-hit-KO with the list description 💀

Further suggestions for the yaoi list, take or leave at your own discretion: • Therapy Game (and Therapy Game Restart) by Meguru Hinohara. Sex is front and centre and there's a longterm romantic plotline • 10 Things I Want To Do Before I Turn 40 by Mamita. Because it's nice to see a yaoi about a dude who's not a 20-something twink. • Coyote by Ranmaru Zaria. Gorgeous art it's ridiculous • Yatara Yarashii Fukami-kun by Ayaka Matsumoto. starts out like it's just smut and then there's character development? lol Some manhwa that I love also: • A Room Without Windows/Legroom (Legroom is the official EN title) by Dakto – Kind of also a psychological horror as well as a yaoi? really good, a personal fav, gorgeous art too • Kill Me If You Can by Jea. Very long read but I was so invested. Also it's filthy at times lmao I probably have more in my MAL list lmao but i'll leave it there for now or we'll be here forever 😂 Also mad props to you for having Afterglow on here i love Afterglow augh

5

I actually just read a large portion of Mamita's work and I'd say 10 Things I Want To Do Before I Turn 40 is just slightly more romance than it is smut so it's not quite what I have in mind for this list! I've added the other manga, though. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find the manwha to add but I'd be open to adding them if they're catalogued in the future.

2

Aha you got me, I didn't check PB to see if the manhwa were catalogued on here (I typically track manga and manhwa on MAL since its library is more designed for that, and therefore more robust, unless I'm filling it in for a quest or other specific reason here 😂) I stand by them as recs for people to check out on their own time though, they're both bangers with excellent artwork.

2

Yo naughty fukami-kun is equally hilarious and 🥵 hahaha

And therapy game is PEAK! Great recs!

4

Eyyy fellow Fukami-kun enjoyer! It's one of my many favs, Fukami himself is an inspiration to nerds everywhere 😌

3

Haha yes!! I love how straightforward he is, it’s so refreshing. He’s feisty too 😂 He’s one of my fave BL characters along with Minato from TG.

3

Yessss seconded I love both of them so much 😭

3

Ah, these chins bring back memories...

4

@nanaschreibt this list is for you! Also, the pinned info is what I was telling you about lol
