Books where one of the main character(s) pretends to be someone they’re not—literally. Always open to suggestions!

Oh, the name of the list made me think of "Yellowface"! I don't know if it fits your criteria though, as the MC keeps her own identity (mostly...) and 'just' steals the work and ideas of her friend
Oh she would definitely work! I actually stopped reading it because of this reason!! I couldn’t take being in her head 😵💫
I had such a difficult time as well and was shaking my head constantly 😮💨 the only thing that made me push through was the need to see some form of consequence for her!
Ugh, I wish I kept going because same. But it was just too much.
i think june would work, considering the changes she makes to market herself as racially ambiguous!
you're right, that's a good point!
ooh thank you, I'll look into it! does june pretend to be someone else or is it mostly creating a persona for marketing etc?
I'll try to spoiler as little as possible! She pretends that she's the author of books her (dead) friend wrote to get the praise for them, but doesn't really pretend to be her friend. She still wants to be seen as another person/herself. Although she does pretend to be of Asian heritage as a marketing tactic and therefore creates an alter ego.
The Jasad Heir would fit this! Sylvia's the lost heir to a kingdom, but she's hiding her identity. (Sylvia's her fake name)

perfect, thank you so much!
Little Thieves by Margaret Owen has an FMC who impersonates the princess she was once a handmaiden for! Also, Crown of Feathers by Nicki Pau Preto has an FMC who pretends to be a boy to sneak into a phoenix riding school (kind of like a Mulan situation). Not sure if that one fits as well, but still might be worth looking into.

!!! Thank you so much for these recs! I appreciate it! ❤️
