What books would you like to see on the big screen? I know a lot of readers prefer the book to live in their head forever because the actors chosen for the movie are NOTHING like what you’ve envisioned the characters to look like and it messes up your picture, but I know that many of us cast actors AS we’re reading. Tell me what book(s) you’ve cast, and even if you’ve scouted locations for certain settings in your head. Doesn’t have to be well known celebrities either.
I’ll go first. I cast Helena Woods, some random IG astrologer chick, as Clio from Play Nice by Rachel Harrison. Achilles, in The Song of Achilles, by Madeline Miller is a younger, tanned, more sinewy Hayden Christiansen.

This is a book that plays out like a movie in your head. I’d love to see it become a movie, but only if it’s directed by Guillermo Del Toro.
I had a hard time in the beginning of this book. The character development is loooong. But once it got good it got really good for me. There were many instances where I felt like I’d missed something and needed to go back and reread, but thankfully after reading others reviews I understood that that’s just how this book is. There’s a lot of not knowing. So if you’re ok with that, then you’ll be ok with this book.
There are still a good bit of answers I never got and plot lines that I wished had been finished regarding certain characters. But I understand that that’s ultimately not the point. Overall, I do love the girl power. I think that was the ultimate highlight of this one for me.

81 pages of world building seems a bit exaggerated when the book is 352 pages. Specially when the description of the book alleges to something than occurs almost a quarter in the book.

I LOVED this book. Man I love Rachel Harrison. First Cackle then this one. The characters are written so well. This book constantly has you asking…”is it real?” “Is it psychological?” And you’re asking that because she mixes the supernatural with the psychological so well that you never truly know what is what until you do. But just trust me, you need to read this book.

What are your most interesting wheelhouse items in terms of books? Something that will make people go "Wow, that's specific", or something you've never seen or heard other people mention? If you don't know what I mean by wheelhouse, it's something that will always make you interested in a book.
One of my more specific wheelhouse items is fantasy mysteries on trains or ships (not boats, those are too small). Something not very specific, that, however, I never hear others talk about, is metafiction. I love a character who knows they are in a story, a narrator speaking to the reader, or more subtle meta levels such as a genre book commenting on the genre.

Alright, I’m an astrology girlie, I’m a coffee girlie, and I love cats. I should have loved this book. But I couldn’t find this nearly as interesting as I would have liked to. The parts I enjoyed: -learning about astrology -the descriptions of the different desserts and drinks -the epilogue that brought everything together.
The parts that fell flat for me: -the cats being people sized -the way the characters spoke -the writing felt amateurish but according to one of my previous posts in the forum that had more to do with the translation.
I wanted more astrology and coffee shop and less character backstory.
