4

Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh possibly fits here? 🤔 Although it's more folk horror and some body horror. Not wholly in the horror genre

I saw the list, was like oh this sounds like my cup of tea...literally everyone Is already in my TBR 🙌🏻

2

ouuuu perioddd!!!

1

Oooo! Love this so much.

I feel like Elliott Gish's Grey Dog would really fit this one. Also, Lee Mandelo's The Woods All Black.

If it's okay to self-rec, one of my novels would to (but no worries if not).

2

i’ll look into it, thanks for the recs!

2

Of course! Grey Dog in particular is one of my favourites, and the author is super nice.

2

good to know! i’ve been interested in reading it ever since i saw it in passing at the bookstore a few weeks ago 😊 i’ll take this as a sign to bump it up on my tbr

2

Yessssssss. Excited to see what you think! I've read it twice now all the way through (and lots of excerpts here and there, as part of my dissertation was on it, ahaha).

2

very cool! what was your dissertation about?

2

Marginalized reclamations of monster figures, specifically as sources of resistance rather than assimilation! A lot of what I looked at was queer horror.

2

oh PERIOD. that sounds like a wonderful topic to explore!! did you incorporate any other marginalized groups and their horror rep or was your focus only on queer horror?

2

It was pretty broad, but queerness ended up being a throughline (kind of of necessity). There was honestly so much material that I was spoiled for choice. I looked at racialized reclamations as well + disability and marginalized religion. I also had a chapter on VanderMeer and the use of the monstrous to promote animal rights, etc. There was a lot of overlap tbh! Sorrowland was another one I looked at that's on your list (one of my chapters was specifically on Nature + queerness + the monstrous).

2

eek! so cool to see others with similar interests!! i, too, dabble in writing and really wanted to write a queer eco-horror piece and was looking into books that have similar themes. eco-horror is a FANTASTIC way to represent queerness as a natural and beautiful thing that is unfortunately perceived as monstrous

2

Oh, that's awesome!! Queer eco-horror is amazing. Hopefully you end up finding some inspiration with these ones. I love wandering in the woods, so I find that kind of thing creeps into my work even if I don't intend it to, ahaha.

I'd love to read your work once you've released something!

2

haha thank you!! given your interest in queer horror i’m sure you’ll come across it if i ever get around to actually writing (and eventually publishing) something 🙂‍↕️

2

I hope to! If you remember this thread, you can always come back and link to it, ahaha.

2

Hence my interest in your list (apart from it just being an awesome topic that I'm interested in/enjoy).

2

I've never seen a list that was so 100% stuff I want to read/have read. Amazing.

2

yay!! glad this list is getting some love, and i’m glad it’s interesting for others as well! 🙂
