Why is Adam Driver in my book again?
I have noticed a pattern Adam Driver characters appear in romance novels all the time mostly thinly veiled Reylo ones. If you like this list is also for you but I also hope it’s a place of discussion about this phenomenon . Please correct me if I got a book wrong/ missing one I ALSO WANT TO FIND ONE WHERE HE APPEARS ALONE WITHOUT REY DOES IT EXIST ROMANCE READERS PLEASE TELL ME???? Kylo Ren is haunting the narrative

See is this sexist to assume it’s about Adam Driver alone or does he need Daisy Ridley as a counterpart to balance the character out? If books overwhelmingly have the same couple re done again and again you can’t assume it’s all just the allure of the man? Or does the female characters change enough that it is the male character that is capturing the female gaze? Is it the dark brooding male ? Or is Adam Driver just hot please answer these burning questions!!
IME reading Darklina, there’s two different flavors of this.
1 They think the actor is hot and feel uncomfortable writing real person fanfic so they write their fictional characters instead, but it’s just thinly veiled real person fic. In this, the female character is often on the generic side and mostly a receptacle for the MMC’s desire.
2 It’s the pairing, and it’s specific dynamics or trope to that pairing that are fairly consistent. There’s a specific group of attributes which makes it easy to point and say “that’s fanfiction of that pairing.” It’s hard to explain exactly what makes it that way, but it’s usually a combination of backstory similarities, personality traits, and interactions based on canon interactions.
The first version is really common in Darklina because people really liked Ben Barnes playing him in the Netflix show. I’m more of a pairing person myself. 🤷

I've actually only read The Love Hypothesis from this list. I read Ali Hazelwood's work when she was still a fanfic author and enjoyed it fine, but when I to reread one of the shorter works that got turned trad, I just wasnt into it 💀 turns out when I don't already want the characters to kiss, some of the scenarios give me the ick!

See I can see this linking up to a bigger discussion about fanfiction to trad pub because people always mention the Harry Potter ones now and the other classics aka 50 shades of grey but there is a wealth of Reylo fanfiction turned into books and no one has been batting an eye apparently
Oh, it's been happening for years for sure! Predating Hazelwood. Black Moon Rising by Frankie Rose (who I just learned is actually Callie Hart) came out in 2018. Idk how popular it got though, I just heard about it through fandom spaces.
I literally just saw someone review You, Again by Kate Goldbeck and it used to be a Reylo fic 😂
