suggestion: eat the ones you love by sarah griffin!!
Added, thank you so much!
oooh you should add The Forrest Brims Over by Maru Ayase !!
Omg yes this is on my TBR!! Thank you!
OMFG MOSS, MY BELOVED!!!
Also is this what happens in The Wilder Girls? I haven't read it, but somebody posted in the club earlier looking for a book they read about girls turning into plants and this book was suggested...
Who is this one by? I’m having trouble finding it!
Oh I guess it's just Wilder Girls by Rory Power?? My bad
There's also a character in The Inhabited Woman by Giaconda Belli who is reincarnated as an orange tree...
So this book is on my radar because of you, i fully intend to read it by the end of the year, and I knew I had to put it on this list!! I thought of you as i made it!
would a botanical daughter count perhaps? not to give too much away but a body is used to create like, a living plant-body and uses another body to grow herself later?
I think that counts! added!
Hell. Fucking. Yes. This is my THING. I didn’t have enough for a real list yet.
YESSSSS same!!! It’s such a specific thing but I’m so obsessed with the idea and I don’t think about how much I wish I could turn into a tree at all
Also, I now have a desperate need to pin or favorite lists I’m following. I cannot let this one get lost 🫣
Relatable 😂 and it’s not even a laughing matter. There’s this Druid book that has a meditation of sorts about becoming a tree (pg 163)— I love it. I’ve done it since I was young.
I will have to check that out 👀👀
Thank you! Should I add this to the list? Is there more tree content?
Eh, I wouldn’t. I was just reminded is all. Although Druidry is def a place you’d find this.
Admittedly I know next to nothing about it, but thanks to you I think I am going to find a book or two to fill my knowledge gap!
Happy to help. Feel free to call upon me to buddy read things for this list (from or finding) like anytime.
👀👀👀👀👀👀 would you want to buddy read something next month?
September? Yeah! Have any you’re eyeing?
I really want to get to Moss!! If you’re interested!
I’ll come back and report once I take a sec I can add it to the forum!
Hazelthorn and Honeysuckle would fit right in! 🌱❤️🩹
I was also thinking Hazelthorn might fit!
Oh absoFRUITLEY Hazelthorn!!!
Added both!
Omg yessss I love this, what an awesome list!
Thank you so much!! I’ve discovered I am super into this concept!
yessss it's one of my fave concepts as well! i know it's present in The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri, but i'm not sure to what extent as i haven't read it yet! just throwing it out there in case tho hehe
I’ll add it!! If/when we read it we can remove it if it doesn’t actually fit!
There’s a short story in Sisters of The Revolution by Ann VanderMeer. It’s Called: The Sleep of Plants by Anne Richter. & It’s why I included it on my non-humans & empathy list. If you’re up for it, otherwise it’s a rec for the comments!
I’ll add that!! Thank you!
There’s also A Neglected Garden included in Kathe Koja’s Extremities
Think you missed my other note here when you get a sec.
Oh shoot which one?
Nevermind that’s my bad, lol! Nothing at all has been missed. Keep up the good work. 😆
😂😂thank you for all your contributions to this list!!
@breaklikeafish @jake99 can you guess which book I am contemplating to suggest? and what do you think?
👀👀👀👀
she is beauty, she is grace- -no literally, her name is Thalia Grace 🙌
not going to lie, I have no clue what book you’re referencing 💀
It's Percy Jackson, The Lightning Thief (and possibly more? 🤐🤐), but I'm not entirely sure if this fits your list, I guess it would depend on how prominent the plantiness would need to be for you? 🤔
I think it fits if it’s more than just something that happens/is mentioned in passing; it fits if it’s important to the story at large or a specific character’s identity or journey! If that makes sense.
Oh, Thalia Grace definitely fits that criteria imo!
for a moment I thought you somehow read the heroes of olympus books without me noticing 🤣 but yes you’re obviously talking about thalia, totally the only time someone gets turned into a plant in the riordanverse (lie) 🪴
Please do not the spoilers ✋️🙅♂️
You gotta add pure colour by Sheila Heti!!!
I hadn’t heard of this one! Added, thanks!!
Would love to hear your thoughts when you get to it 🩷
I will definitely post updates!
Oooh it's been on my tbr but I didn't know that 👀
Yesssss the narrator spends a portion of the book as a leaf
amazing list idea 🌱🌵🪴🪷
Thank you so much, this has become a new niche literary interest of mine hehe
If we’re talking sort of becoming one with a plant in your body, but not becoming it per se, What Wakes The Dead T.Kingfisher would count. 🤔
Is it Wakes or Moves? I added What Moves the Dead!
Fuck. Should have known I always get the name wrong haha, you are correct!
OMG I LOVE THIS!!! This was something I didn't know I wanted to read until now 🙂
YESSSS welcome!! I need alllll the books about this
If you ever need a friend to read any of these with, let me know!!! 🙂
Yes please!!! @Myth.Ink and I are reading Moss in September 👀👀
I keep committing to too many things for September so I think I'll unfortunately have to pass 😭
If you do one in the future again though, let me know!! 🙂
We will 🫡 lol
I feel you, friend!! I’m already plotting my 2027 schemes for similar reasons 😅 we definitely will! Is there a particular title that really interests you from this list for us to read together?
Omg same, I’m already filling in parts of early 2027 in my plan! Insane!!
And realistically, I’ll probably deviate from my plan every month 😂😂
crazy. I always deviate if it’s not a dedicated buddy or book club read etc. can’t plan past the current month, and even that floods into the next, floods into the next, floods into the next…
I view my plan as a loose suggestion at this point lol I keep bumping books back too
I think A House with Good Bones by T. Kingfisher would fit this perfectly! I love books that include transformations 🙂↕️🙂↕️
Thanks for the rec, I’ve added it!! Same here, there is just something about a narrative in which humans transform into (or attempt to transform into) other life forms, especially plants, that is so alluring to me. I would do it if I could haha
How do you feel about a choose-your-own adventure book where one of the paths ends in you becoming a tree? Bit off the beaten path for this list maybe, lol, but I thought I'd check just in case...
I feel like that sounds incredible and also like the path I am choosing when I read it. Adding it immediately
Omg this also happens in The Knight in Screaming Armor (RL Stine) lol
I’ve added that as well 🙂 ↕️
I just realized I meant to nominate this list for the vote and I fucking forgot, brb kicking myself!!!
Oh no!! So sad. Well, if you give it time we can fill this up to the point it would become a main quest! In the meantime we be treating this like a quest already. I mean- whatdoyoumean this is a quest already ✨
EVEN BETTER, you're right
I like the way you think 😎
hehe 🤭 - as a huge reader, and a very particular reader at the same time, I vastly prefer main quests when it comes to the voting, atm. Although I love a well curated small one!!
That makes sense! I think it makes it feel easier to continue engaging with the quest curation in main quests even if you DNF some, whereas your badge potential is limited if you DNF even one book in a side quest. Not that I read solely for the badges by any means, but there are some badges that look soooo good in sparkly, that I will just simply never attain because I love to DNF. I hope to keep finding more books in this realm so that there could be Main Quest potential if it were to get nominated someday!
Very true.
I’m so honored that you even thought of nominating it 🥺🥺
This is so not the same vibe as the rest of them, but a cute one that came to kind is a translated Chinese (web?)novel called Bamboo Spirit’s Husband-Taming Manual: A Sharp-Tongued Celestial Master’s Self-Strategy Record, about a bamboo spirit cultivating to a human shape. It's been a while since i read it, but I remember it being very cute.
That does sound cute!! Unfortunately it isn’t on here!
Oh! Fools Night the manga I’ve been reading has this. Dystopian vibe approach. Super interesting. Been reading it book by book as my library adds the volumes.
That sounds good! Who’s it by?
Oh right. Let me see…
The Inheritance of Orquídea Divina by Zoraida Córdova has plants growing out of bodies and IIRC someone fully transforms.
This sounds great! I’ve added it, thanks!
I can't say I have ever read anything like this...but I will now!
It’s such a beloved niche of mine, I hope you enjoy! 🌱
he's not the main character but rather a case that the main character deals with, so not sure how prominent it has to be, but in The Cabinet by Kim Un-Su there's a man with a ginkgo tree growing out of his finger! super weird book i loved it
Ooh thank you for the suggestion, that sounds great!
Chlorophilia by Cristina Jurado maybe belongs here!
I’ve added it, thank you!!
I'm doing a major tbr overhaul and finding all sorts of interesting stuff I forgot about, haha
Keep it coming!!
There's a nonfiction book called How I Became a Tree (Sumana Roy) that looks hella cool
omg i am beyond intrigued!!! Thank you for the suggestion. You and our friend @Myth.Ink have brought so much to this list
It's one of my fave lists on Pagebound and I am delighted whenever I have something to contribute to it!
