Disclaimer: I don't wish to bring hate to any authors, I deeply believe in democracy. However I think it's important for people who hold themselves accountable for their reading choices to have access to the information about authors/books they give their time and money to. These are authors who have publicly supported Israel or middle road. If you notice someone who may have changed their stance recently or supported Palestine and are here wrongfully please do correct me

The thing is, it's very difficult to form an opinion on authors who changed their stance the past year. Even while making the list I stumbled upon some authors who when researching I found results for both their support for Israel and later on their tries to show a pro Palestine public image. On authors who took a complete 180 turn like the author of haunting Adeline it feels easier to remove them from the list but others like Rachel Lynn Solomon I am more hesitant.
I understand very well that my decision will be quite controversial but here is just a conversation about authors who first show support for Israel but then end up donating to Gaza or to books for Gaza needs to be addressed. I searched these authors to be sure that they have either promoted Israel by including it in their books or that they have left a comment, a tweet or a thread from their account, "pray for Israel", updating with the Israeli flag or donating to the idf. I take those actions as a very purposeful choice from their part which they wish to share with their audience. When those examples exist I personally expect the same loud change in favor of the Palestinian people when they change those same opinions.
It is no secret that many customers, readers are part of the rare groups that do in fact hold the people in the community and especially authors accountable by being outspoken on the boycotting even big names. I might be judgmental here but I truly believe most of the authors who have gone silent after the protests and then silently donated once or shared one link to donations act out of pressure and for PR purposes.
Again that is a personal choice to include in the list authors who I believe fit in this category and it's perfectly okay to disagree with it, just having conversations on the topic mean a lot
Makes sense to me! I have not done the best job personally re: not reading authors who don't mirror my stances re: human rights if I'm honest, but I really truly appreciate these lists and posts because at the minimum it gives me a lot to think about and look into. Thank you so much!!
The Yoko Ogawa thing is frying me. I looked it up and itās like⦠a character in one of her other books, Minaās Matchbox, expresses Zionist views (which maybe I would include in this list). Book was set in the 70s and written in 2006⦠but translated into English in 2024 by a Jewish guy. No word on whether the author herself espouses those views today but it is certainly a choice to translate this particular work in 2024.
I found about her political opinions after I read her book, the memory police. And I felt much better about not liking it
ugh see I actually did like it :(
that must be heartbreaking but if you want an alternative from a pro Palestine and a truly amazing author I recommend "human acts" by Han Kang
thank you!! it's on my TBR!!
Marissa Meyer being on here took me by surprise but in all fairness, the girl did make a Japanese character the emperor of all of east Asia. So maybe not surprised but somewhat disappointed
omg.... what the hell ššš
I bet she likes second world war history
wait who was Japanese?? is this in the Cinder series?
Yes the prince is supposed to be japanese even though they all live in new Beijing. It's all a little messy tbh (ngl I enjoyed those books but still very messy choices)
wait what in the. this whole time I thought he was Chineseš
Brandon Mull is the kind of mormon that includes his obsession with female obedience/purity and manifest destiny/christian nationalism in his middle grade fantasy books, i had been thinking of doing a "keep away from children" list later but he'll be among friends on this list too š
Brandon Mull, Brandon Sanderson, Stephanie Meyer... I hate to say it but I see a pattern
i don't hate to say it... when the museum docent shows you the gun used to kill joseph smith, they tell you the assassin carved the word "prophet" into the barrel, while you can see the gun in the glass case and read with your own eyes the word "polygamist." mormonism is a fundamentally illiterate cult perpetuating eugenics and violence against women while laundering money through a propaganda publishing house to support, among other things, genocide. tithe to the church, church gives to the zionists. the church publishes their finances per legal requirements, this is all verifiable. (half my family's lds, the gun story's my mom's. she and one cousin have gotten out) i do hate being a bummer in the thread but! i will name the pattern until we stop seeing it :/
I saw a YT video from an ex-mormon analyzing mormonism in Twilight & another where she talks about Mormon authors in general and she did also mention the publishing press that's dedicated to mormon authors. Also, she mentioned that Brandon Sanderson "speaks on LGBTQ issues" but also regularly donates to the church.. the very thing that oppresses lgbtq people, women, etc. but people defend him because "at least he criticizes the church in that aspect" which doesn't mean anything if the church is profiting off of youš¤·āāļø
There's also Taylor Jenkins Reid - she posted a video of an israeli settler crying in an interview, without adding any context or showing Palestinians' side. (You can check @zionistauthors on IG)
Oh I was sure I added her but I was wrong! Yes I have been aware of her opinions for a long time. Thanks for the reminder š
No worries! Thank you for doing this!
I appreciate a place to find the info on Zionist authors! Gonna check that out asap šš¼
Brandon Sanderson????? Rick Riordan?????? Omg
It's a curse I am telling you
yeah :( idk much ab sanderson, but riordan made a statement a while ago saying something along the lines of wanting to āstay neutralā or that both sides were suffering. definitely disappointing š
i reread The Lightning Thief recently and got icky vibes from him. i didn't like how his worldbuilding involved Mt Olympus moving "to the heart of Western empire" (hence why Olympus is located in America rather than Greece). it's not like, outwardly offensive but just weird lol
I remember not liking the inaccuracies in the mythology but it was in general not something problematic. Anyway, another one bites the dust
there's a lot of things i personally found to be icky with his books, tbh. i mean, like i ate that shit up as a kid and it is/was really nostalgic for me but i didn't like how he explored indigenous identity through piper either. she was constantly trying to move away from her indigenous identity, and found it unappealing/unattractive :/ that, coupled with what you've said with the "western empire" was just icky overall. he does do a decent job with representing neurodivergent/queer identities, though!
I will say Rick did this at the beginning but has since read books about Palestine and posted donation links and such, I think he's learned and shouldn't be on the list anymore
ohh that's great to know! i'll have to look more into him, thank you for your comment :)
Oh this is interesting! Something to look into. From the comments, apparently a few other authors on here are the same so probs something to double check independently (or for the list to be updated if and when needed /neu)
I chose to add authors who belong in the "both are wrong" category! Sanderson specifically has partaken in lectures on Israeli universities in the past so I would have included him either way but I really understand if you chose to focus only on the authors with solid proof of their support of zionism on their personal accounts like Taylor Jenkins Reid
Oh no, i definitely dont support āboth sidesā people - i had jist understood from the prev comment that he had since read up and changed his views (and ive seen a couple other comments about other authors saying the same /neu). From another comment, it seems like Riordanās pro-palestinian outlook was performative. Iāll look into the issue and am not criticising u! Definitely do not support the āboth sidesā argument
Oh no I don't mind criticism, it's a nuanced topic! From what I found that made me include him in the list he has continued working with Zionist both in publishing and the movie adaptation, he was very vocal with posts about Israel and only later supported Palestine with a single link (although I didn't find a screenshot but since people mention it I don't erase it) and lastly I looked into his statements:
"Yes, but whose side are you on?" That is exactly the wrong question. If there are two sides to this issue, those sides are not Palestinian/Israeli or Muslim/Jewish.
The two sides are humanitarian and dehumanizing. Dehumanizing has a long evil history. It is appealing and easy to buy into, because humans are tribal animals.
We are hardwired to think in terms of 'us versus them. We are the real humans, the good guys, the anes with God on our side. Those other people are evil monsters who don't deserve empathy. Hate mongers have thrived on dehumanizing for as long as there have been humans. It provides them with a purpose, a way to rally support, power, and scapegoats. It is easy to point to atrocities committed by our enemies, while justifying or minimizing the atrocities committed by ourselves or our allies
Humanitarianism is a much harder sell. It requires us to empathize, to see other groups of people as equally deserving of dignity and quality of life. It requires not always putting ourselves and our needs first, But in the long run, humanitarianism is our anly hope if violence could end violence, if we could put an end to "those other people" once and for all, human history would read very differently than it does.
So yes, I am appalled by the Hamas attacks? on Israeli civilians, I am appalled by the suffering of Palestinian civilians in Gaza Both things can be true. Both things must be true. My thoughts are with all the people who have died, who have lost loved ones, who have had their worlds and their lives shattered, especially the children, More death and violence will not break this cycle, which has been going on for generations. There is no military solution. Even sincel first wrote the post, only twenty-four hours 2 ago, the Israe government's brutal Cretaliation against the entire population of Gaza has reached genocidal proportions
This is not only an atrocity, It is folly
Answering misery with misery only creates more fertile ground for extremism, dehumanizing the "other side," letting hate mongers thrive, stay in power, and reduce us all to our most monstrous impulses. The only real solution is treating each other like equally worthy human beings, and negotiating a peace that allows all parties a chance to live in security and dignity, with hopes for a future that does not include bombs and rockets and gunfire. This means ?? Security and support for Israel yes. It also means a secure Palestine which is allowed to get the international aid and recognition it needs to build a viable state."
Sorry that was a big passage š
No need to apologize! Having all the information is important š«”
I did look into that before but to me it felt ingenuine; he wrote a multiple-slides post on his support for israel and then after being called out he only posted a photo from palestine with a donation link. These are not the same energies. He didn't amend his statement with his newfound knowledge, if he did indeed read books on Palestine (which I also looked up on goodreads and didn't find any). So in my opinion if you're not as vocal and as clear on your stance, then you don't stand on the right side of history, and you haven't really changed you're just trying to avoid the backlashš¤·āāļø
Oh this is good to know!!!!
"if you're not as vocal and as clear on your stance" yess!!! this exactly!
im pretty sure rick is one of those 'middle road' folks which . . . strange and disappointing
I was just getting in to Sanderson's books and all š¤¦š»āāļø
saaaaame
you get sucked into it without even knowing š¤·
I will be taking this into account for the future. Thank you for this list. šāāļø
Now Iām glad I returned the emperorās soul and got different books instead, I never knew this but it feels like my heart did
0% overlap hell yeah š
Here is your crown, you deserve it šš„°
This is an amazing resource! Thank you!!
thank you very much ā¤ļø
A book that isn't nearly as popular but was on my TBR before I looked up the author and her entire Instagram feed is littered with Zionism talking points is Goddess of Warsaw by Lisa Barr
I didn't know about it! That is really disappointing honestly
Yeaaaah, I started listening to the audiobook and was like "this sounds interesting but...I should look her up" and I'm so glad I did
Did she throw signs in her book?
I mean! I wouldn't say she was saying Israel is the Holy Land and was given to them blah blah, but what happened in Blue Sisters is there's this portrait in the house and the narrator says "painted by an Israeli artist" and that's all that's mentioned, so it's something that really didn't need to be there but she felt the need to put it
Propaganda is usually subtle so...
Right š¤Ŗš
Wait I'm so sorry, I thought I was replying about a different author (Coco Mellors), no no Lisa Barr's book's intro felt like Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, but not because it was also set in WWII/Holocaust? So I looked it up because of my association of Seven Husbands being written by Reid and then the protagonist was Jewish (not that all Jewish people are Zionists of course, it just made me think I should look it up). Maybe later in the book it's more Zionist, but I only listened to the first chapter
Taylor Jenkins is in the list because of her Instagram stories not her Jewish characters. She promoted Israel and the IDF
Yes I saw that, makes sense. I just was explaining why I ended up looking up Barr. I already knew Reid posted that video and Barr's book reminded me of Reid's so I was like "hmm maybe I should look her up too"
Thanks for this! I had some books of this list on my tbr but not anymore!
Same, the real dissapointment was with books I had already read and actually loved like "the serpent and the wings of night" or "scythe". Finding out their authors character can really ruin the experience
As far as Iām aware, Rachel Lynn Solomon has participated in book auctions for Gaza recently and I believe sheās changed her views
Sheās had Israeli characters in her books and wrote about feeling very connected to Israel, and the donation to the book auction may have been for PR purposes but she still seems very milquetoast āboth sidesā at best to me.
Thank you for this!! I cleaned up a bit and now my TBR is zionist free šāāļø
you can breathe the freshness in the air šāāļø
0% overlap we love to see it
M.A. Wardell (a popular gay romance author) unfortunately also belongs on this list. @annas_sweets_and_stories on Instagram has a story highlight about him with evidence.
Wow I have been seeing them recommended a lot this year... It's a pity š
Such an important list I applaud you šš¼šš¼ There's also the Kellerman trio (Jesse, Jonathan and Faye), Piper C.J, Zibby Owens, Sonali Dev, and Lee Child.
I will be completely honest I have no idea who these Kellerman men are and I am currently very proud of it But off with the rest they go Thank you for the help!!
As you should be š«¶š¼ I'm glad I have none of the authors in the list on my tbr and haven't heard of most of them or their books. But one must know a zio to avoid them. Thanks for your work on this šš¼
Tell me what exactly you think is wrong about supporting "a middle road". Both people deserve to live in peace and prosperity and believing otherwise is simply hateful.
People can hold their own opinions on who their support but the matter is Israel cannot exist without the oppression, murder and eradication of Palestine. It demands to violently take for itself the geopolitical scope, the resources and the lives of the second to simply be. Anyone can find how as a country it has taken over pretty much 4/5 of the previous state that agreed to bear land and space for them since 1940s. It is a modern imperialistic europe centric settler state that needs to spread through propaganda in order to enforce and expand. This is not any different from the crimes against native Americans for example, only it's being done with far more violent means of modern technology and the passive consent from all the big modern civilizations and the organizations responsible to uphold worldwide safety and peace. The middle road of they should both be happy and exist is a state of mind to bring comfort to the third party watching unaffected or profiting instead of addressing the obvious atrocities of the "coexistence" that has been the statues quo.
There are many things that should be considered in this conversation, the ties of zionism to the nazi ideology and practices the such as we can see with the haavara agreement, the fact that every citizen has multiple nationalities because of the fact that Israel is not a semitic state nor are it's people, the ties with elite circles of European and American political parties, etc. But for lack of a better word I will just say after the live genocide we have been witnessing for almost two years there is not much I can say that can make someone see if by now they have chosen to keep their eyes shut.
Oh boy... That is overly simplistic and only tells me one thing: You're more invested in simple answers and being "on the right side" than understanding the reality of the conflict and actually supporting a better future for Palestinians. Since that is the case your list is not - as you pretend - a resource to stay informed but simply a boycott list. Not everyone who supports the existence of the state of Israel supports violence, oppression. But you don't differntiate at all. It's heartbreaking that this platform endorses this kind of hateful behavior.
"Overly simplistic" and OP just gave you an excellent explanation. Just fyi, most of us in this platform are pro palestine, and it's not hateful behavior, it's just that we don't want to support a genocidal state or people who endorse itš but this comment says a lot about you tbh.
I don't understand how I am being hateful by stating the fact that Israel as a country is a result of violence to native groups such as the Palestinians. The thousands of people blocked and starved are not being oppressed and killed by some anonymous evil high power to accept as a tragedy we can do nothing about. There are names, there are accomplices. I want to call out violence where I am seeing it. Is it not natural to be disgusted by displacement, genocide and war? I will agree that I have much more to learn not just on the Palestinian Israel war but the history of imperialism in general. This is in fact my life, I am pursuing higher education in history, I want to keep learning. And on the topic of the list the intention behind it is exactly what I stated . Boycotting is a personal choice, me saying names of authors who support Israel doesn't make other users stop reading their works. It is my opinion that reading is political however, that the people who read and write both hold themselves to their own morals and in that case purposefully hiding or manipulating your stance (not you specifically) as an author with a huge audience hides intentionality. Readers have the right to know who they give their money, their time and their love to
Don't waste your time with this person, OP. They're just trying to ragebait you at this point, no matter what you say, this person is never going to understand your point.
STEPHANIE MEYER??? NOO š©š©š©
I also had no idea about thisš
iām looking it up, and am personally not seeing anything about her and zionism. i do see stuff about her being a mormon though. i donāt think sheās made an explicit statement about the genocide, though.
Yeah i wouldn't be surprised though considering Mormons being what they are and on top of that her books being racist.
totally see that, thank you for letting me know!
mormons = zionists (they want to be 'the chosen people' so bad they call regular folks "gentiles" so of course theyre super invested in the israel project)
OH, i was not aware of that. thank you!
as a deconstructed Christian... I'm embarrassed by my historical use of "gentiles" myself š the thing is I also called MYSELF a gentile bc I'm not Jewish. I am forever finding out details about mormonism that befuddle me
book rec for anyone in this tangential 'discovering mormon lore' thread-- with the cherry-on-top of being turned into a Hulu series starring Andrew Garfield-- Under the Banner of Heaven, by Jon Krakauer (also pairs well with Educated by Tara Westover, but like. remember she's not an investigating outsider and has not left the church. or, imo, helped anybody)
lmaoš def looking into these ty for your service
wtf i am actually shocked
I don't see quicksilver on here, did something change?
I couldn't find any photos of a tweet or an Instagram story when researching and I chose to not include an author without having solid proof just in case someone asks me why that author is included in the list I will definitely add Callie if she has expressed any pro Israel stance! Have you read something about her?
Fair enough. I don't think she's made a direct comment (I believe she scrubbed her profiles when quicksilver came out?) but her FMC in riot house is an IDF solider and I believe they refer to Isra*l as a country. And while she has not commented about it, her brother served as an IDF soldier (which may/may not reflect her own beliefs)
Added her! Thanks for looking into it
i was just about to comment lol callie hart def needs to be on here
not me finding out that rainbow rowell is a zionist from this list
HD Carlton is actually a big advocate for Palestine!! Iād prob take her book off this list but amazing job!!
I only included her because I found an account posting about authors and he included an old story of hers about being on neither side. That one was two years ago so it's very possible she was just misguided and immediately changed! I will do more research on her and if I am wrong I will certainly remove her from the list! Thank you for your correction ā¤ļøā¤ļø
Ohhh didnāt know that! Like you said it is possible sheās changed, Iāve read she regularly posts about Palestine and even teamed up with some other authors to release an anthology of story excerpts with all proceeds going to Palestinian families :) that was a year ago and if thereās any new info on her then I will amend my comment Thank you for your response ā”
turns out you were right! Sorry for the misunderstanding, she can return to our bookshelves with pride
Oh no need to apologize!! You didnāt do anything wrong ā”Ģ glad we could get it worked out! Itās murky at best to try to figure out which authors are genuine and who isnāt š« but yayyyyy
Wrote my earlier comment before looking at the books on the list, and now Iāve looked and WOWOWOWOWWW there are so many authors I didnāt expect!! This is wild!!! So really really thank you for this!!
Not the post reading clarity š Yes, it's a dark world out there
NOT COCO MELLORS
Yeah i saw somewhere that she has a zionist/israeli character in her book
agh removing blue sisters from my tbr
Yeah it was in Blue Sisters for a second and I felt uncomfy. Literally didn't need to be mentioned and it was
There's also neal shusterman, author of the Scythe trilogy, as much as I hate to say itš
NO š± I did not see that coming... How... How do you even write Scythe while being a Zionist come onnnn
I think he's more middle-of-the-road based on what I found but YEAAAAH, even that at this point is too much
RIGHTšš I had the same question!! Also I've read the series at the start of genocide and felt it very relevant to the current political climateš„² But there were small things in the trilogy that rubbed me the wrong way that I wasn't sure how to interpret. For example, one scythe was called Scythe Meir, I think, named after Gola Meir, a former isr*eli prime minister, and one of the other scythes was like "I admire your namesake a lot, she was really brave" (something along those lines). Then there was a country in the scythe world whose name I thought was a merge of "Israel" and "Saudi Arabia", because I do remember he said in the book that it was a mix of two countries that existed before the scythe thing (I also remember that the librarian that helped Scythe Faraday when he was in hiding)
That just got really dark, really quick š„²
Omg I remember reading about āIsrabiaā in 8th grade and being so upset and confused dont remind meš
Yess that's the one!! Like it couldn't have been more obvious
Oh wow that's deep lore! I haven't read them I just know the one thing the author posting saying he doesn't know enough to comment
Not knowing enough is also an issue; there are numerous resources on the issue, he just doesn't care enough to educate himself
I was DEVASTATED to see Scythe on herešš Unwind is one of my favorite series ever, I'm constantly recommending it to peopleššš„
Thank you so much for this list!!! so important
Having read Cleopatra & Frankenstein and The Blue Sisters, I am still unsure why the Jewish characters are Zionists... I am eager to learn, so I would love someone to educate me, sorryyy š
Not the characters, they might as well simply be Jewish but I don't think it's a coincidence that Israel was mentioned in both her books when really there was no reason to
Ah I see, thanks for clarifying!
Does anyone know if Roshani Chokshi still is very āboth sidesā (as she was in Oct-ish 2023) or if sheās expressed different (hopefully pro-Palestine) views since?
I see nothing on her page regarding this issue so I doubt that
Just went into a rabbit hole with her and sadly no... But the stories for donations to Israel are pretty much saved and public for the world to see
Thank you for taking the time to do this research. I felt like I dreamed Roshani chokshi's zionist statement in the begining. I think she later back tracked it as "both sides'. My confusion came from Sabaa Tahir being friends with her and promoting her new book. I thought maybe Roshani changed her stance but could not find anything.
Can you provide the sources regarding Stephen King? Would appreciate it greatly
In his book "Different seasons": Others have it worse, he thought. All over the world, others have it worse. In Israel, the Palestinians kill busloads of farmers who were committing the political crime of going into town to see a movie. The Israelis cope with this injustice by dropping bombs on the Palestinians and killing children along with whatever terrorists may be there.
Also Israel is mentioned in many of his books. I think his input on the matter is more subtle than anything but his silence on the Palestinian genocide is quite telling especially when he has mentioned Israeli war criminals in his books
Wait does he actually bluntly say this in his book!? So his others have it worse character is just making things up? The audacity. This guy is as Zio as it gets!!
Thank you for putting this list together! It's really important to stay informed!
Thanks a lot for putting this together! Amazing work. Iām definitely updating my library based on your list š
only just saw this list and took the Scythe novels off my tbr! did not know about that one. sometimes getting recs from people i trust can only go so far without doing extra research smh (not blaming the person i got the rec from bc i think they read it a while ago and didnt even finish the whole series lol) disappointed about the memory police too :( dang thanks so much for this list
Thank you so much for this list! I'm actually disappointed in myself because I have 21% overlap. š¤¦š»āāļø I've taken 2 books off my TBR thanks to this list. And I might need to take a look at my TBR in general. I'm also very disappointed and appalled by Rick Riordan, Lynn Painter, Taylor Jenkins Reid, Elle Kennedy and a few others! Whyyy, ffs?! (I mean THEM not your list, obviously) I used to love their books. I just started rereading PJO and watching the series, which I loved so far. Argh, why do authors have to be like that?! šš«©
Ah I'm really disappointed with Mitch Albom, Coco Mellors and Kristin Hannah! Because their books are bangers and I'm very interested in Blue Sisters :(
Hi! I'm currently reading the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard and when i checked this list (which i btw thank you for so i can be more aware of what I'm reading and who i will not give my money to) I was surprised to find out the controversies about her since her views about oppressed groups of people are pretty clear in her books, I mean, the whole plot is about that. I, so, made a few researches and, after what i found, i don't think she should really be considered Zionist. This is obviously just my opinion and feel free to refute what I'm saying if it's wrong but here are some words she put a few years ago (so during the time people consider her definitely a zionist) on her instagram stories: The ultra right extremism of the current administration goes against everything Jews should stand for. I have been inspired by the hundreds of thousands of Israelis who have taken to the streets for the last ten months in protest of their government. It is important that we make these distinctions on a day like today. The distinction between a people and their government. As Americans, we should hold this distinction dearly, as we were all too recently under the terrifying leadership of the Trump administration, and their hateful legislation. As we abject condemnation of the murder and kidnapping of Jews. This might be seen from some as defending Israel but I think she is right. This is politics, people's lives we're talking about and it's not always possible to express your views with one word, for example you can't just say "are you pro israel or anti israel" and those are all the options you have. She made an interesting statement about the government being different from the people and that's totally right, you can see so many israelis going against their government and their choices. Why do people think that's wrong and she's a zionist for having that idea when she in fact stated that what is happening to palestinians is wrong? Would really like to know about your views, just curiosity really. And just something I wanna add but that doesn't really change things, she also donated to Books for Palestine. Finally, sorry if i wasn't 100% clear as i am not a native english speaker and i hope to know yall's opinion about this!
Heyy thanks for looking into it as well! I knew about these posts, I personally take it as a middle road way but still I chose to add her in the list because of some regulating interactions and tweets when she was asked about Palestine. I think not speaking about the genocide when asked and answering in a way to give grace to a portion of a population that has overalled mistreated the people of Palestine and stripped the country of it's safety and geographical rights since 1948 (but as plans dating back to even 1870s) is a passive stance on the topic
I see! thank u for telling me about your perspective too
Hey I just wanted to say that that's definitely zionism - being a zionist doesn't only mean she supports the genocide, there are liberal zionists after all, zionists who support israel's existence (its existence as a colonial entity) but don't support the genocide or violent practices against Palestinians and don't necessarily hate us as Palestinians (which is the bare minimum tbh). The colonization of a country doesn't stand without people upholding its existence (i.e. "israel" as a country doesn't exist without Israelis), so Israelis are not just complicit, they're agents. Did you know that almost all Israelis have served in the IOF because it's mandatory? So almost all, at one point or another, have done what the current soldiers are now doing in Gaza and the West Bank, so they're not innocent at all and you can't separate them from the government. Additionally, Victoria's statement implies that it's only the current government that is this awful, to say the least, because it's "far right", but if you look at any other previous governments, left or right, you'll notice the same practices, the same ideologies, the same methods of ethnic cleansing (and it has been ethnic cleansing this whole time, it's only now that people are paying attention because it's dialed up to a nightmarish scale). This isn't "palestinians vs jews" as she framed it (and since when is "jewish" a nationality??), it's just a people that want to live on their land but are barred and killed at every turn. This is pretty much a black and white issue, there's no middle ground here; you either support people's rights to live and for self-determination or you support ethnic cleansing.. and don't even get me started on the resistance being framed as "kidnapping jews"..
Sorry for the very long response, it's just as a Palestinian it's maddening when people keep trying to make this issue seem complicated by humanizing zionists and denying or ignoring Palestinians 2 years into the genocide.. anyways I suggest you look up @letstalkpalestine on IG as they offer comprehensive analyses of everything related to Palestine and they're very accessible to non-native speakers (and you might find a page in your native language!)
Hi! thank you for replying, seeing your point of view has been really helpful and what you say really makes sense, sorry if my original comment might have been offensive in any way i was really just trying to understand. Thanks for the page you mentioned, i'll check it out!
Btw the instagram page I mentioned has a storefront on Bookshop.org where they have a wide selection of books on Palestine, some are non-fiction for beginners, some are poems and literature (fiction), and other categories you might find interesting :) im happy to recommend you books from those lists if you're interested
oh my god i had no idea about so many of these?? thank you for informing us with this list š
Shit, I didnāt know about Roshani Chokshi, she was one of my favs and The Gilded Wolves is so dear to me ⦠šš
Thank you for this list! I had more overlap than I wanted, but mostly on TBR (not anymore) or stuff I read as a young teen so no great losses.
It says more about what authors and books the industry pushes than what kind of reader you are because honestly most of these people are not even bad authors! There are books here that I adore and it broke my heart to find out later what their creators stand for But I am glad it could help you out š¤š„°
Thank you for this list!! Really makes me disappointed to see some of these books famously read around on pb š„²
Oof the heartbreak seeing Sanderson on this list I had no idea, time to read other books :')
Christina Lauren changed their stance last year. They did Auction to Donate to Gaza. Also Pierce Brown books are shit i didnāt even bother adding it in my tbr!
I am aware but for me they are kind of in the same category as Rick who had to change their public image to save face. Their current support strikes me very much as a pure professional decision so they won't have to deal with the backlash
That makes perfect sense! We do have plenty of pro Palestine authors to read anyway. Why waste time reading the books of authors who see no harm in colonisation!
Thank you for the list, i removed all I didn't already read
Safekeep - Yael van der Wouden, the author is israeli, talks about israel often but has not expressed any anti-zionist views, has recommended zionist israeli authors before (according to online sources)
EMILY ST. JOHN NOOOOOOO šššš even a 9% overlap hurts so much š„²
Thank you for this list, it conforts me in the knowledge that I am on the right platform ā¤ļø
Also very telling that a lot of these authors have MANY skeletons in their closets...
